Summary

This article summarizes how a SwyxWare v6.00 or newer configuration must be set up in Italy regarding the configured phone number fragments. The article also considers the different types of ISDN lines offered by Telecom Italia.

For older SwyxWare versions please read Configure SwyxWare 4.x and 5.x in Italy (kb2473).

Information

A special aspect regarding the phone number schema in Italy is the fact that an ISDN subscriber must dial a prefix digit in dependence of the type of destination he wants to reach. For instance the prefix "0" is used for all calls to domestic fixed line subscribers and the prefix "3" is used to call a mobile phone subscriber.

Area codes are basically existing, but even calls to other subscribers in the same area must always be initiated by dialing "0" plus the area code plus the subscriber's number in the area.

The usal public line access prefix in Italy is "0".

Taking all this into consideration following general settings have to be applied in a SwyxWare environment (properties of the italian location):

Country Code 39
Area Code 0 (always)
International Prefix 00
Long Distance Prefix
Public Line Access Prefix 0

By the way, if you install the italian language version of SwyxWare, the Configuration Wizard suggests exactly this values as default settings for the Default Location.

In addition to these general settings the number profile in the Trunkgroup properties and the number(s) of the line in the properties of the Trunk(s) have to be entered.

In case of an ISDN line with only one phone number or multiple MSNs (regardless, whether the line is operated in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint mode) following settings must be applied:

  • On tab Profile in the properties of the Trunkgroup select Italy MSN.
  • On tab Numbers in the properties of the Trunk enter all assigned phone numbers in the following way:
Country Code 39, Area Code 0 and for First/Last Subscriber Number use the MSN number(s) including the area specific part, e.g. for a line in Modena "59123456". That means the Area Code without leading zero is directly prefixed to the real MSN number.

In case of an ISDN line with DDI (extension range) following settings must be applied:

  • On tab Profile in the properties of the Trunkgroup select Italy DDI.
  • On tab Numbers in the properties of the Trunk enter all assigned phone numbers in the following way:
Country Code 39, Area Code 0 and for Subscriber number use the headnumber including the area specific part, e.g. for a line in Modena "591234". That means the Area Code without leading zero is directly prefixed to the real subscriber- (head-) number. In the fields Lowest/Highest Extension please enter the DDI extension range (e.g. 000 - 999).

In consequence of the more or less missing area codes, a user's Calling Rights within SwyxWare must be interpreted in a different way. Calling Rights can be changed on the user's property tab Rights. If the permission Local Destinations is given, a user in Italy is allowed to place outgoing calls to arbitrary domestic fixed lines, while the permission National Destinations refers to the right to place any kind of domestic call, including calls to mobile subscribers or special services.
