The information in this article applies to:

[ Summary | Information ]

Summary

When using a desktop firewall software like ZoneAlarm, Kerio Personal Firewall, Windows Firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall, etc, SwyxIt! might not run. This article describes how to configure desktop firewall software to let SwyxIt! communicate with SwyxServer.

This article is about Desktop Firewall Software installed on Client PCs, only.

Information

SwyxIt! and SwyxServer use Microsoft's Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) to communicate with each other for call control. Audio data is transmitted using the Real-Time Protocol (RTP). Desktop Firewall Software might block this type of network traffic. To enable it, do the following:

  • Allow outgoing and incoming traffic on UDP and TCP Port 135 (up to SwyxIt! v7.0)
This is the port Windows uses for initial contact via DCOM objects.

  • Allow outgoing and incoming UDP and TCP traffic for SwyxIt!.exe and Clmgr.exe
(both located in the SwyxIt! installation folder \Program Files\SwyxIt!). This allows DCOM communication between your SwyxIt!, SwyxServer and other SwyxWare clients for call control and RTP data to be transmitted and received for audio data.

If your desktop firewall software supports it, you can allow this type of traffic to/from IP-addresses of your local network only instead of allowing communication to/from any address.

If your desktop firewall software doesn't support setting the rules described above, use another software which can.
